Israel heritage sites

My role: Definition & creation of the visual language

Overview:

The Council for the Preservation of Heritage Sites in Israel is responsible for the preservation of dozens of sites and buildings all over the country. In order to expose the Israeli public to all this historical wealth, the Council for the Preservation of Sites initiated a project in which each historical site would have a representative icon of that place.

The challenge:

The Council for the Preservation of Heritage Sites in Israel had no visual representation of the different heritage sites. they needed visual materials to be used for marketing purposes, their website and different cultural events.

The solution:

Creation of 32 dedicated icons set to be used in multiple channels, to increase the public audience engagement and awareness for the company's activities.

The company approached "GOOD Interactive design & branding studio" where I worked at the time, and asked us to design their Passover event that included music performances located in 12 different heritage sites across the country, with the aim of connecting the Israeli audience to culture through music and history.

The first step was to collect images of all the different heritage sites, and understand how we could represent each site visually:

Most of them had unique architectural elements, which led us to the decision to highlight these parts, and to create a set of icons for each site.

The iconic language included a combination of strokes and colors.
while the strokes structures the building itself, the use of color with different shades helped emphasize the three-dimensionality of each structure.

While taking in mind that the icons color works well with the rest of the event color palette, including the website and merch:

After the event finished, we've continued in extending the icons set for all of the heritage sites, a total of 32 sites:
